Most people tell me they hate having their photo taken, and then we spend a wedding day together and they forget I am there. That is the whole job, really. I am somewhere in the room rather than in front of it, so the tender and the ridiculous and the heart-eyes moments all happen without anyone performing them for me.

Fourteen years and more than 350 weddings means very little goes wrong that I have not already seen go wrong. Family photos take under half an hour. Portraits are gentle guidance rather than posing. The rest of the day belongs to you, and I work around it.

I care about this because of my Grandpa Willie. After he lost my grandma, more than fifty years into their marriage, he covered his walls with photographs of her. That is what these pictures turn into eventually. Not proof that the day looked expensive, but proof that everyone you love was in one room at the same time.

Kansas City is home, and I will happily travel for a wedding that is worth the drive. I greet every dog I pass on the sidewalk, and I have been growing out the same bangs for thirty years. Both of these facts are relevant to nothing and true regardless.
